About BGH

BGH was created by Kate and Karen, both stay-at-home moms who for over 10 years have been raising children and volunteering in their schools, scouts and community. Like most busy parents, convenience is essential, but Kate and Karen started to wonder "at what cost to the environment?". So they laced up their practical shoes and started taking simple green steps.  It felt so good they wanted to share it with others.  And so was born Big Green Head, a green place to start.

With BigGreenHead.com, self-proclaimed "goofballs," Kate and Karen strive  to create a fun, creative site that takes an elephant of a problem--our environment--and cut it into bite-sized, digestible pieces small enough for anyone to swallow.

What does the name mean to them? Big Green Head represents universal, environmental consciousness and begs the question "What small thing can we do to make a difference?".

Meet the Mortals Behind the Monster.

Karen Ferris – Co-Founder

Born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, Karen has combined her high school class clown status and statistical, business degree from Miami University, and applied it to drawing little green monsters and blogging about her trials and tribulations of doing green.  She is the BGH team’s illustrator and main content writer for the site.

Kate Midnight – Co-Founder

Kate grew up two houses away from her current address in the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio.  As a self proclaimed wanderlust, she finds great pleasure traveling from her bedroom to her basement each day to design, maintain and contribute to the BGH site.  She is the BGH team’s website creator and content editor.

Jim Lahm – Web Design Troubleshooter Extraordinaire and generally a great guy!

As the loving father of Kate and respected friend of Karen, Jim has taken the BGH web design to a whole new level. Jim expertly marries Kate and Karen's creative ideas with technological capabilities. If this sounds like he's really good at this stuff....he is!

Big Green Head – The Monster, The Legend

Born at the hand of two chuckleheads, BGH enjoys bringing a light-hearted charm to doing green.  As a self proclaimed fashionista, and so not to bore his fan base, BGH has a costume change for every occasion, which he hopes Vera Wang will one day recognize.
