I should have let the laundry/toilet scrubbing ball drop instead. But honestly, when I’m really busy it’s just easier and less stressful to do what I know... grab and go food, snitching from my kids plates, giving in to cravings. Am I the only one?
Remembering this is not a race to the finish, but rather an attempt at a lifestyle change, (although I would like to see some progress before my class reunion) I will try not to go too hard on myself and keep looking forward.
Now that Big Green Head’s Green on the Green event is over (whew!) I am taking this time to analyze my first four weeks and adopt some tools to keep me on track and motivated.
- For starters, I’m going to buy a scale. I know I made a big deal in one of my previous blogs deciding this point, but I think I need a little peek at the scale once a week to keep me on track and focused.
- I also started a food journal. I am going to start writing down what I eat and keeping track of my carbohydrate intake. I think I can eat a fair amount and still lose weight, but when I found out the Margaritas I had last weekend added up to an entire day’s worth of carbs, I thought it best to start keeping track. Perhaps this will make me think twice about my food choices.
- Exercise has been incorporated into my daily routine. I added this last week and I am really enjoying nice long power-walks with my pooch. I try to go most days and I plan on adding some weight lifting to my routine in a few weeks.
I almost feel like an idiot adopting these tools four weeks into it. It’s not like I haven’t read in every magazine and book ever published on weight loss that this is what you need to do! So stay tuned, because even though I have no comments or input from you, the reader, you are helping me along the way and making me accountable... so thanks!
Favorite Food of the Week
This sounds bizarre but I assure you it is AWESOME! I don’t even have a name for it.
- 1 Vidalia onion cut in half (in the direction you would cut for onion rings)
- 1 pad of butter
- Beef bouillon granules
Place the onion in a bowl, put the pad of butter on top, and sprinkle with bouillon granules. Microwave the onion for 2 minutes on high. YUMMMMMM!
It tastes a bit like onion soup. I’m thinking of tossing some gruyere cheese on top next time.
