do green | feel good

We Are Big Green Head!

This monster is on a mission to change your perception about going green. It’s not difficult, nor is it costly... in fact we think it's pretty cool. Start doing green and feeling good. Have you got something better to do?

It’s Time to Recommit to Healthy Eating

Written by Karen

It’s no coincidence that the three week break I’ve taken from writing about the “lean” part of my 52 week journey, to go green, get lean or die trying, accompanies tighter fitting shorts. If my clothing could talk, they would be yelling at me for the painful stretching I’ve been putting them through lately!

It’s also no coincidence that I’m writing this before the sun has a chance to rise because I’m suffering from acid indigestion (you know, heart burn). Yes, I’m being productive this morning, but no, I am not happy with myself. I attended a great Pelotonia fundraiser dinner last night - hosted by my friend and held in her back yard. It was very nicely done: live music, great cause (raising money for cancer), open bar (getting a little scary), catered buffet (uh oh...) and alas, a dining room table filled with decadent desserts (and scene).

But this is how weight goes folks, up one week and down the next. But when the small things that had me feeling good 2 months ago have been replaced by food from a box or bag, it’s time to put on the brakes and recommit. Nothing crazy, just some simple goals for the week that I can put a check mark next to.

  1. 3 raw vegetables a day

  2. Only whole grain bread, pasta, rice

  3. One serving of calcium (I should be getting 3 but it’s a start)

The exercise is going great. I’m still biking, swimming and walking/running. Thank goodness, too, can you imagine the shape I’d be in if I let that slide along with the eating? If I thought my shorts were mad, I can only imagine what my jeans will have to have to say if I don’t turn this around. It’s just the incentive I need before fall.
