And then there are people like me who spend a lifetime contemplating what kind of swimsuit won’t make me look fat, searching for an easy recipe to make for dinner, and pondering the algebra homework my kid brought home. More akin to back yard gatherings over cold beverages, my group tends to discuss more task-oriented topics: carpools, grocery lists and volunteer duties. Our lives purposes aren’t revealed atop a majestic mountain, but rather thrust upon us like a Justin Bieber mob and carried like a football into the end zone.
I can attest to this because my big “aha” moment came to me at an end-of-the-year banquet for my kids. The last place I would have guessed I’d have a “big picture” revelation.
I was minding my own business (okay, I was actually pulling plastic gallon jugs from the trash to recycle) when a women I had never met before exuberantly introduced herself, shook my hand and said, “Hi, you’re that green lady aren’t you?” I smiled and nodded politely and said “yes, nice to meet you”.
I walked away (holding an armful of water jugs) and had to chuckle because no one has ever called me that before. “Is this how people see me...that green lady?” I wondered. When I went home that night, I pondered the big “green” picture and my part in it, our part in it, Kate, BGH and me. Conclusion--yes, we are those green ladies (and a green monster)! And this is what we do: educate people, just like us, about the little things that make a difference.
So for my 42nd blog, I’m sharing some past articles and blogs that you may find helpful. I encourage you to share them with your friends and then encourage them to share with their friends. One of the EASIEST green things you can do is spread the word! Thanks for reading.
