do green | feel good

We Are Big Green Head!

This monster is on a mission to change your perception about going green. It’s not difficult, nor is it costly... in fact we think it's pretty cool. Start doing green and feeling good. Have you got something better to do?

Local, Green and Healthy Info - The New Columbus Phone App

I’ve always heard that you can tell a lot about a person by looking at what’s in their shopping cart. I think the same can be said for a person’s mobile phone as well (not that I’m looking). But instead of surmising that someone lives alone, with cats, and indulges in Ben and Jerry’s, we can speculate about a myriad of other things.
For example, a phone that has a ridiculous number of apps serving no particular purpose (Sweet Talk is a classic example) tells me you’re either a kid, young at heart, or have too much time on your hands. Most likely it’s all of the above.

Then there’s the phone that may as well be wearing a suit and tie as it can easily access current events, stocks, and industry averages. Hopefully this person’s shopping cart looks a little more fun.

And then there’s the phone that contains nothing more than the apps that came preloaded on it. Apparently this guy has not been stuck in an airport long enough to explore the wild world of cell phone apps. Don’t worry, Angry Birds isn’t going anywhere.

Apps, apps, everywhere! And why not, people seem to love a good download these days.

App-arently, Mayor Coleman is hip to this scene as he has t-apped into this growing trend with his recent release of MyColulmbUS, suitable for a myriad of app-etites (too much? I’m stopping).

Here is what it does:

MyColulmbUS combines four main Columbus websites and tools:

  1. Columbus 311 - Call center that provides a way for residents to submit a request for City Services.
  2. GreenSpot - Resource for Columbus residents, businesses and communities to learn about living and working greener, and commit to doing it.
  3. Get Active Columbus - Provides tips and resources for families about how to get active in Columbus and access to events calendars, park and trail guides, and tips from prominent community members on healthy eating and exercise.
  4. My Neighborhood - Interactive map that provides Columbus residents with quick, easy access to information and locations of government buildings, local entertainment and retail venues, as well as other useful Columbus sites.

I gotta admit, this is pretty neat, and I’m not just collecting apps here. The City of Columbus has made it convenient, easy and cool to seek out local information: bike routes, museums, events, going green, healthy living, city services and so much more. It’s a download worthy of any cell phone.

Making the most of the city in which we live keeps our local hearts bursting with pride and our local economy bustling with business. And although it’s true that we are as individual as the contents of our shopping carts, we share the same “back yard” in the City of Columbus... complete with a mobile app.

MyColumbus is currently available for the:

iPhone and iPad:  http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/columbus/id444745167?mt=8
