Did you Know?
- Organic products are better for the environment because they are produced by farmers who avoid the use of harmful chemical pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers.
- The pesticides and herbicides currently being used on many non-organic crops are exceptionally toxic to humans and can build up in the human body contributing significantly to disease.
- Toxic sewage sludge is used to fertilize non-organic produce. Human waste is mixed with industrial waste and toxic chemicals and sent to waste treatment plants. One of the by-products of these waste treatment plants is toxic sludge with as much as 60,000 different toxic chemicals (e.g., PCBs, DDT, asbestos, dioxins, toxic heavy metals, etc.).
- Farmers who embrace the production of organic products are also more likely to employ renewable and sustainable resources, as well as conserve water and soil for the use of future generations.
Expense: The cost of organic food is more expensive to grow and raise therefore it costs more to buy. It just may save you money in long run though, as studies show that chemicals and hormones found in food may cause disease and illnesses.
Reduce/Reuse/Recycle - REDUCE the amount of produce and meat you eat that is grown with chemicals.
