Curly Light Bulbs (CFL's)

CFL stands for Compact Florescent Light, or for some they're referred to as "the curly Lights".  You may not be ready to invest in changing all your bulbs at once, but for your most-used lights, use CFLs. Although they cost more initially, they provide an equivalent amount of bright, attractive light, are better for the environment and will save you money in the long run.

Change a Habit

Replace incandescent bulbs with CFLs, especially in your most-used lights.

Never throw away CFLs.

Did You Know?

CFLs save you money in the long run as they use 75 percent less energy and lasts about 10 times longer than an incandescent bulb.

If you replace five 60-watt incandescent light bulbs with CFLs, you would save about $271 over the lifetime of the bulbs.

Only 10% of the energy consumed by a normal light bulb generates light. The rest just makes the bulb hot.

If every American household replaced one of its standard light bulbs with an energy efficient compact fluorescent bulb, we would save the same amount of energy as a large nuclear power plant produces in one year.

In a typical home, one compact fluorescent bulb can save 260 pounds of CO2 per year. With the average American household using 20 light bulbs, that equals a 5,200 pound savings of CO2.
