Alkaline "one use" Batteries

Alkaline batteries are the ones you buy over and over... and then probably throw away.  By throwing batteries in the trash and into local landfills, you are essentially introducing such harmful chemicals as lead, lithium, cadmium, and mercury to nature. These substances and pose serious health issues to both humans and animals and cause air and water pollution.

Before purchasing a battery-operated product, think about whether you really need it. Rechargeable batteries have considerably less impact on the environment over the course of their useful life, and can be recycled when they no longer hold a charge.

Did You Know?

3 billion batteries are purchased annually in the US, and most of those eventually get thrown away. Worldwide this would probably translate to 10 billion or more.

Household batteries are responsible for between 50-70% of all heavy metals found in landfills.

Used batteries are often not completely dead.  Grouping used batteries together can bring these live batteries into contact with one another, creating safety risk.
