Watch your Water Usage
Imagine you were only allotted so many gallons of water each day. Where would you cut back? Big Green Head wants you think about this every time you turn on a faucet or hose, flush a toilet or run your dishwasher. It’s easy to take our seemingly, unlimited running water for granted.

- Turn off the tap in your bathroom while you brush your teeth.
- Take shorter showers. (Use a timer.)
- Don't let the water run constantly while you're washing or rinsing dishes.
- Fill a pitcher with tap water and put it in the fridge, rather than running the tap every time you want a cold drink.
- Repair dripping faucets.
- Reduce the amount of water you toilet uses per flush by placing a brick or closed container in your toilet tank.
- Install low-flow and water-efficient appliances, shower heads and spigots.
- Dispose of oil and other toxic materials properly. Just one gallon of oil reaching the sewer can contaminate one million gallons of fresh water.
- Water your lawn in the early morning to avoid evaporation.
- Install rain barrels at the end of each gutter.
- Sweep patios and sidewalks rather than hosing them
- Limit pesticide use. Besides being potentially dangerous to people, pets and wildlife, they will eventually runoff into our freshwater supply.
- Nearly 97% of all the world's water is salty or otherwise undrinkable. Another 2% is locked in ice caps and glaciers. That leaves 1% for all our needs.
- The average total home water use for each person in the U.S. is about 50 gallons a day.
- More water is used in the bathroom than any other place in the home. A dripping faucet can waste up to 2,000 gallons of water a year.
Expense: Using less water each day isn’t going to cost you bunches of money. In fact it will have the opposite effect on your monthly bill.
